What is COSTEP?

COSTEP stands for "Comprehensive Suprathermal and Energetic Particle Analyzer". It is an experiment mounted on SOHO, which is the spacecraft in a halo orbit around the L1 Lagrangian point, providing an uninterrupted view of the Sun. COSTEP consists of two instruments, which are called EPHIN (Electron Proton Helium Instrument) and LION (Low Energy Ion and Electron Instrument).

Both instruments are measuring energetic particles emitted by the Sun. On our site you are invited to learn more about COSTEP, to obtain experimental data or just to have fun while reading. You'll also get to know the team behind COSTEP. We are working in Kiel at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.
